Biography

Donald Forsdyke was born in London, UK, and has degrees in Medicine (St. Mary's Hospital Medical School) and in Biochemistry (Ph.D, Cambridge University). He has engaged in research and teaching at the Department of Biochemistry, Queen's University, Kingston, Canada, since 1968. His research includes the concept and mechanism of positive selection of lymphocyte repertoires, the identification of lymphocyte activation genes, bioinformatic analyses of DNA sequences relating to introns and speciation, evolutionary biology and biohistory. His textbook Evolutionary Bioinformatics (3rd Edition, Springer, New York, 2016) is backed by several webpages (accessible by way of his homepage http://post.queensu.ca/~forsdyke/homepage.htm ) and by his "Evolution Academy" videos (http://post.queensu.ca/~forsdyke/videolectures.htm). The latter are a course of 54 short (15 min) videos that follow the style of Salman Khan's "Khan Academy," and are addressed primarily to High School and beginning College students. There are also several longer (1 h) conference presentations that bring together various themes.
